Technology and the NDIS

Aevum is one of the biggest NDIS service provider for Physio and Exercise Physiology in the Sutherland Shire. We have many participants under the NDIS come from Sutherland, Miranda, Caringbah, Menai, Engadine and Cronulla. Our team are highly experienced to help you establish and achieve your goals. We work closely with many participants with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the Sutherland Shire and for this reason we have invested in advanced technology to help better equip our clinicians to achieve our participants goals. In this article we will discuss some of these.

This is a cold or cooling vest that is worn either before, during or after a session to assist with thermoregulation. With multiple sclerosis motor function can deteriorate as your body temperature rises. This makes co-ordination and strength tasks more challenging during a therapy session. Wearing the cold vest for a short period significantly reduces body temperature rapidly allowing us to get the most out of the therapy session and also to make the session as comfortable as possible. The technology runs chilled water through a vest worn over your clothes drawing up heat and rapidly cooling your core temperature down.

Alter-G anti gravity treadmill

This is a unique treadmill that allows us to assist participants to walk while being stabilised so that there is no concern of falling and we can also control the amount of pressure the treadmill lifts your body weight in order to make walking much easier, its like walking on the moon with gravity substantially reduced. This enables us to focus on the movement pattern of walking when walking with full body weight is not an ideal option when suffering from MS. This is an excellent way to strengthen the legs and maintain as much mobility as possible.

Kinesis unit

This is a wheelchair accessible cable based resistance machine. This particular machine means we can do high quality strength work to assist maintaining upper body strength and also working on building the muscles needed for transfers. If grip has become a concern we can use wrist wraps to hold the hand in place during the exercise. This piece of technology allows for extensive exercise options decided upon by the physiotherapist and NDIS participant in order to best achieve the NDIS plan goals.

In addition to these pieces of unique equipment we have a full scale accessible gym designed to be a beautiful environment with state of the art equipment to enable you to reach you goals what ever they may be. Our team work closely with all NDIS participants. We have a particular focus on Down syndrome, Cerebral palsy and mild to moderate delay.

We are conveniently located in the heart of the Sutherland Shire with mobile Physio services also available and excellent parking. If you would like to know more you can call and book in a free discovery session to come and see our excellent facility. 02 85443231.
